Week 2 of dinosaurs

We had a super busy week this week!

We continued to work on addition strategies by learning to use snap cubes to find the different ways to make 10.

One of our favorite art projects was our dinosaur sunset painting. The children painted a sunset then added their grass and dinosaur silhouette to finish it off.

We also got a visit from some adorable baby chicks!

To finish up the week, we did some Peep science with our first grade buddies. We predicted what would happen when we put marshmallow Peeps in water, clear soda, and a vinegar/baking soda mixture. Then recorded what happened to them!

And of course we got to try the Peeps when we were done!

Have a great weekend!

Week 1 of dinosaurs

We had so much fun our first week of dinosaurs!

We learned how to draw a dinosaur.

We talked about herbivores and carnivores.  Then sorted them in group time before doing a cut and sort activity.

We talked about what glyphs are (a picture that shows information) then made a dinosaur glyph. The children made a green dino if they were a boy, or pink for a girl. They then added a spot for each year of their age and a smile if they liked dinosaurs or a frown if they didn't.

We also talked about bar graphs, how we make them, and how to answer questions using the graph. We then found dinosaurs on our paper, counted them up, and graphed how many we found.

We started talking about measurement this week. We then did a measure the room activity where we used egg rulers to find items of varying lengths.

For cooking, we made dino oatmeal that had dino eggs that hatched when we added our milk!

Have a great weekend.

One of our art projects was a rocket made from the letters of our names.

We also finished our space journals by writing about the planet Earth!

Last week of Nursery Rhymes

This week we did some really fun activities. We practiced labeling by labeling the parts of a spider. We also sorted spiders from bugs and talked about how they're different. We practiced sight words by finding and reading them in our sight word readers and by playing sight word fishing. We also started to focus on CVC reading and sounding out words by reading some short a words and sorting them by their word families.
