More nursery rhymes

This week we continued learnimg about nursery rhymes and rhyming words.

We talked about living and non-living things and sorted them out as a large group.

We also reviewed numbers and number order by looking at the first and last numbers on a paint sample strip and filling in the missing numbers.

For art, we worked on an Old McDonald TLC book.

Finally, we continued our patterning unit by reviewing patterns from previous weeks and learning about 122 patterns.

Have a great weekend!

Farm Nursery Rhymes

This week was a shorter and very busy week. We worked a lot on patterning and the letter Qq plus introduced 2 new sight words (come and some).

We used our patterning flip books to make lots of different patterns.

We played "Pick a Card and Pattern" where the children picked a pattern card and used manipulatives to make that pattern.

We also reviewed our numbers by cutting out numbered farm animals and putting them in order to make a number line.

We worked on reading our new sight words during group reading time.

We planted "bean patterns" and added scarecrows to keep the crows away.

We also made crows by tracing two handprints and a foot and assembling them into a crow.

Finally, we practiced our patterning using colored noodles!

Have a great weekend!

Last week of zoo animals

We had such a busy week this week! In addition to learning about the letter Jj, our new sight words, and continuing to work on patterning, we also celebrated out 100th day of school and finished up our zoo animals unit.

We made a 100th day trail mix where each child made 10 groups of 10 snack items then mixed them together.

We also made 100th day pizzas where the children used a hole punch to punch out red "pepperonis" and put 10 on each of 10 pizza slices.

We also did an art project called 100 dots where the children used Q-tips to paint 10 dots in each of 10 circles.

For science, we practiced our counting to 100 skill by predicting how full a jar would be with 100 drops of water in it then counting out 100 drops and comparing the result to our predictions.

After reading "How Do You Hug a Porcupine" and "A Porcupine Named Fluffy", the children made toothpick porcupines by tracing their hands and adding toothpicks for the quills.

We also go to see a puppet show called "Old McDonald" with the rest of the Pre-K students!

After discussing what kinds of animals are in a zoo and why, the children chose an animal that they would have in their zoo, drew a picture of it, then made a cage for it (these are displayed in the hallway!).

For cooking on Friday, we made Hedgehog Biscuits by adding pretzel sticks for the quills and raisins for the eyes and mouth then baking them!

We practiced our patterning by making a pattern crown and completing our 1-2-3 pattern page in our patterning booklet.

Finally, to finish up our week, we had a zoo animal picnic where the children got to bring a zoo animal in and have animal crackers and a juice box out in the shade!

Have a great 3-day weekend!

Zoo animals

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great winter break! Now that we are half way through the year, we are really focusing on practicing our Kindergarten behavior by making sure our routines are very similar to Kindergarten (no rest time, a shorter lunch time, etc.). The children are doing great with it so far!

We started learning about patterning in math. Our first pattern that we are working on is a 1 2 pattern (shown below). As we progress through the next 7 weeks, the patterns will grow more complicated.

We also started working on numerical order, number before, number after, and counting on. One activity we did to practice number order was a number order puzzle where the children had numbers 1-30 and needed to glue them back in order.

Our letter of the week was the letter Kk. We learned the difference between uppercase and lowercase Kk, what sound it makes, how to write it, and named a bunch of things that start with a Kk.

We also started talking about zoo animals this week. One of the books we read was Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? After we read the book, we reviewed our color words by stamping them under the corresponding animal in our booklets.

Once we were done stamping, we got to illustrate our book to match our color words.

For cooking, we made cinnamon snakes by rolling biscuits into a snake shape and baking them.

While our snakes were baking, we did a sequencing activity where we put the steps taken to make our snack in order.

Once baked, we added raisin eyes and sprinkles for the antennae.

Have a wonderful weekend!
